By Med stu - Monday, March 14, 2011 7 Comments

Hey,
Since many of the new MD 1 have asked me what books should they buy? should they buy all the books on the list yes or no ?
Let me help you out and also save you a lot of money,
I labeled the items as something you Must Have, Highly Recommended, Recommended and Student Choice

Must Have
- LAB COAT IS A MUST! They have some in the lab as well but might as well use your own clean ones

Highly Recommended
BOOKS
You won't really use the books that they recommended, the real books for studying are the BRS, these are the ones that really compliment the lectures and students doing well follow them, if you want to buy the other books go ahead but I would 100% recommend save your money and buy the BRS books below helpful all the way till USMLE step 1.
BRS Books FOR MD 1
BRS Cell Biology and Histology (Board Review Series)BRS Embryology (Board Review Series)BRS Gross Anatomy (Board Review Series)

Student Choice
Disection Kit
To be honest, all the tools are provided to you in the lab, you don't need your own but if you don't want to use the old lab ones you can get the kit as well.I'm giving links to really good options below ranging from, they are alot cheaper than buying from other places, they contain all the things, or will need.
So Pick the One you like, They all are perfect, some being just a little fancy

Student Choice
Other Instruments:
You dont need anything but the lab coat and disection kit (maybe) in MD1, rest of the stuff given on the list is for PDI Md4 but there are some things which you might use at random occasions I'm posting the items below, so if you are really enthusiastic you can buy it; even if you dont have it wont effect you much in Md1.
Does not matter if you go with the cheap one or expensive one, just depend one the life of the product mostly, better to get a cheap one for bonaire and buy a good one when you start clinicals.

OR HIGH QUALITY --

If you really want to maybe once or twice in MD1 + MD 2 you will use a BP apparatus.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Student Choice
Just posting some extra random stuff below that are good extra studying tool.
Very  Helpful for studying and memorizing important facts

Well i tried my best to make the guide as simple as possible and save you money PLUS make the best use of the money.

  1. Your blog has been really great in helping me make the difficult decision of choosing a Carib med schools. In the end of my research I chose SJSM.
I live in the suburb of Chicago and work in one of Chigago's hospitals as a nurse. I will be attending Bonaire in September.

I'm officially one of your follower.

    Thank you a thousand times.

  5. hey, sorry for the late reply just saw the comment, i would suggest u only take MD 1 for now, so you can adjust to the way of studying, if you study better with just class notes or do you need the books, MD 1 is a good time to be able to adjust and develop study methods
