The 1st thing I realized when i arrived at Bonaire airport was its size. We literally took the ladder from the plane and walked to the gate thats how small it is. There will be a Long line up to check your documents and stamp your passport.
Somethings to do before you arrive on the Island:

  1. Book your flight early cause its cheaper, and try to come atleast 2 weeks early before orientation day, you need to get used to the island.
  2. Make copy of all your documents and keep them with you.
  3. Book your hotel room online and confirm it before you come down here. The hotel I would recommend is Diva Flamingo [http://www.diviresorts.com/diviflamingo/index.html ], they have good service and its not too far from the school.
  4. Try not to buy books cause you barely use them
  5. *Important point* A lot of people don't know this but when you apply to get your student visa in the island, they ask you for a deport of 1000 guilders for US and 2000 Guilders for Canadian students, and if you are from some other country the deposit could range from 3000 to 500 guilders.
When its your turn they will ask you the following:
  1. Passport
  2. Your Acceptance letter
  3. Your Birth Certificate [or Copy]
  4. Single status Certificate [or Copy]
  5. A return ticket
  6. They will ask you for the purpose of visit just say School
After you are done, you will receive a small piece of paper, Please keep that paper safe with you its very important, you will need it when you go to get your immigration documents.

Grab you lugguage come outside, if you are getting picked up GREAT! otherwise take a cab which cost around 12-15 US dollar. Relax in the hotel for the while, then go out explore the city. If you have a unlocked cell phone buy a simcard and you have a way to communicate on the island, come to the student lounge meet other students and I think someone will help you find a place to rent.

  1. I will be attending SJSM Anguilla campus. While I am in the process of purchasing my ticket, I was buying a one way ticket and my parents are doing roundtrip? Will my one way ticket be a problem?
