What to bring

When you are coming down to the Caribbean (more specifically Bonaire) there are some things which are very important to bring.  I’m going to mention some quickly off the top of the my head.

Surge Protector  à This is very important cause you will experience unstable current many times, so you want your electronic equipments to be protected.

Extra laptop charger à If you are down here for 16 month, then there is a high chance something could possibly go wrong with your charger so it’s in your best interest to keep an extra one since it will cost a lot to replace one on the island, and that is only if you can find it here.

External hard drive à this is a must, because you will be taking USMLE videos, lectures and many other notes that will require a lot of space so it’s better to bring it before you come down here.

USB Drive This is important because you need something to get the lecture notes from the desktop for each class. Might as well bring it because it can be expensive down here.

Mosquitoes à  are a big problem on the island so bring insect repellant or after bite they will really be useful.

Books à If you don’t want to study from pdf books I would suggest bring the Kaplan review books, other than that you mostly use your lecture notes to study cause the professors have provided all the necessary information on the slides. Some people do use BRS books to review the concepts but they are not necessary.
The BRS are listed below, and Kaplan i listed at the end of the page.

BRS Cell Biology and Histology (Board Review Series)BRS Embryology (Board Review Series)BRS Gross Anatomy (Board Review Series)

and from my experience and other people who did really well in USMLE i would say this book is a must.
First Aid for the USMLE Step 1 2011 (First Aid USMLE) or First Aid for the USMLE Step 1, 2010 (First Aid USMLE) (Better to have the latest one)
Unlocked Phone à Save yourself the hassle of buying a really low quality cell phone for $75 (yes the cheapest one you can get) and get a good unlocked cell phone; just pop in the sim and you are good to go.

Comfortable Footware à its can get pretty humid on the island and you don’t want to be walking in shoes all the times so bring some comfortable slippers or sandals whatever works out.

Bank statement à If you plan on opening a bank account here please make sure you bring a 3 month bank statement it will really help you while opening your bank account otherwise such a simple thing can become a hassle.

and instead of buying books buy Kaplan USMLE books and use them on to study.  Below are some of the books that i would recommend

My best advice is to bring all the electronic equipment from the States or Canada because they will be pretty expensive down here.
Best of Luck J
